A touch guy is described as a guy who
puts up a front for respect usually in the form of violence. I found
this definition to be interesting mainly because I understood the
respect part but not the violence part. Men descried “real men”
as strong, touch, and respected. What kind of society are parents
raising their sons in? We wonder why boys and men are so violent but
never realize that as a society the cycle of violence is constantly
being repeated by parents and institutions. The fear that boys will
grow up to be gay is enough for parents to raise their kids to be
independent, strong, and respected.
The media has a big effect on
masculinity. In terms of movies and television masculinity is showed
to be a man who is built in terms of muscles, who is feared, and who
is respected. I never knew how masculine boys toys are. Toys today or
getting even more masculine than they once were. There is this
constant idea that guys have to have big muscles and be strong. The
messages just keep getting stronger for young boys.
